Helping Hands

32nd Annual Golf Tournament 2020

What is Lake Conroe Helping Hands?

Lake Conroe Helping Hands began as a ministry of April Sound Church in 1988. For 32 years, it has helped those less fortunate in the Lake Conroe area. The distribution committee, made up of 8 to 10 April Sound Church volunteers, was formed by the church to assist families in the community through a crisis that is disrupting their lives. For example: rent assistance substantiated by an eviction notice, medical assistance, food, or help with utility bills. There are no requirements on the beneficiaries other than need. As a 501-C-3 charity all donations are tax-exempt.

Where does the money come from?

Lake Conroe Helping Hands is supported in the following ways:

  • 10% of April Sound Church plate offerings
  • Gifts of April Sound Church members, friends of the church, and Lake Conroe businesses and individuals
  • The annual Lake Conroe Helping Hands Golf Tournament

100% of all donations and the net proceeds of the tournament go directly to individuals in need.

How is the money distributed?

Every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am to noon, members of the committee are stationed at the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Center where people in need can meet with them to receive aid. All needs must be substantiated by a bill, eviction notice, or other documentation. No funds are given directly to the individual. Vouchers are issued and payment is made directly to the creditor to ensure proper use of all monies donated.
